The stem always began with "MS", and the item number was always in parentheses. The prefix would change according to the dimensions and storage location of a particular box. Manuscript call numbers used to have a "prefix" a "stem" and an "item" number, but the prefix had to be stripped away when searching in HOLLIS and a new system of locating material, ArchivesSpace, made use of the prefix unnecessary and burdensome. In order to navigate in ArchivesSpace, one needs to acquire a basic understanding of how Houghton's manuscript numbering system evolved. The digestive system itself consists of a long tube known as the gastrointestinal tract and several accessory organs such as the teeth, salivary glands, liver, gall bladder and pancreas that are all involved in the breakdown of ingested food particles. The human digestive system is responsible for food ingestion, digestion, absorption of digested food molecules as well as the elimination of undigested ones. This break down happens via physical means such as chewing and chemical means such as enzyme-catalysed reactions. During digestion, food particles are broken down to smaller components which are later absorbed by the body. Consumed food consists of protein, fat and complex carbohydrates which must be converted into simple molecules via a multistep process of digestion and adsorption. While plants can obtain their nutrients through processes that occur via the roots, animals require the consumption of nutrients via physical and chemical means. Watch this video to find out more about the function of the large intestine. All living organisms need nutrients to survive. The colon is further divided into 4 parts – ascending colon, transverse colon, descending colon and sigmoid colon. The large intestine is 1.5–1.8m in length and is divided into the caecum, colon and rectum. By the time food remains have reached this point, about 5–12 hours have elapsed. Undigested remains of food are passed through a one-way muscular valve into the first part of the large intestine known as the caecum – a small pouch that acts as a temporary storage site. Its main function is to absorb the end products of digestion and release hormones that regulate feelings of fullness. Absorption: Ileumīy the time chyme has reached the ileum, most of the digestion processes involving carbohydrate, protein and fats have occurred. These assist with the absorption of the end products of digestion into the bloodstream. It has a huge surface area created by finger-like structures called villi. Peristaltic waves of muscular contraction mix and move the chyme down the duodenum and into the jejunum. These fluids contain bicarbonate, enzymes and bile salts essential to the digestion process. The chyme is mixed with secretions from the pancreas and gall bladder. Small amounts of chyme are ejected approximately every 20 seconds from the stomach into the duodenum. The small intestine’s structure of folds, villi and microvilli increases the absorptive surface area and allows maximum exposure to enzymes and complete absorption of the end products of digestion. It takes 3–5 hours from entry to the duodenum to exit from the ileum. The pyloric sphincter at the lower end of the stomach slowly releases chyme into the duodenum. Strong muscular contractions in the stomach wall reduce the food to chyme – a thick milky material. Time to empty: Stomachįood is mixed with gastric juice. For a medium-sized bolus, it takes about 5–8 seconds to reach the stomach. In the oesophagus, the bolus is moved along by rhythmic contractions of the muscles present in its walls. This swallowing reflex takes about 1–3 seconds. Involuntary muscle contractions in the pharynx then push the bolus down towards the oesophagus. The food is formed into a small ball called a bolus, which is pushed to the back of the mouth by the tongue. Each mouthful takes approximately 30–60 seconds. The mixing process is lubricated by mucin, a slippery protein in saliva. Amylase in saliva chemically digests starch in the food. Chewing mechanically mixes food with saliva from the salivary glands. #fullCircle We return to Glasgow to host our friends and affiliates where we were built □ /vjPIoGnPr2Įarlier in the month, HMS Defender monitored a three-strong group of Russian warships and maintained contact with the force as it continued its journey past the British Isles.Īssisted by her Wildcat helicopter from 815 Naval Air Squadron, the Portsmouth-based destroyer shadowed the Russian trio – guided-missile frigate Admiral Grigorovich and two Stereguschiy II-class corvettes, Soobrazitelny and Stoikiy. INNER JOIN media_types ON media_types.MediaTypeId = tracks.MediaTypeId INNER JOIN albums ON Albums.AlbumId = tracks.AlbumId The following query gets data from the tracks, albums, media_types and genres tables in the sample database using the inner join clause. 1) Creating a view to simplify a complex query Let’s take some examples of creating a new view using the CREATE VIEW statement. However, you can assign the names of the view columns that are different from the column name of the table By default, the columns of the view derive from the result set of the SELECT statement. Third, specify a SELECT statement for the view. The view is called a temporary view and SQLite automatically removes the temporary view whenever the database connection is closed. Second, use the the TEMP or TEMPORARY option if you want the view to be only visible in the current database connection. If the view already exists, it does nothing. The IF NOT EXISTS option only creates a new view if it doesn’t exist. To create a view, you use the CREATE VIEW statement as follows: CREATE VIEW view_nameĪS select- statement Code language: SQL (Structured Query Language) ( sql )įirst, specify a name for the view. It means you cannot use INSERT, DELETE, and UPDATE statements to update data in the base tables through the view.
OG Quake has been further enhanced with local and online co-op and multiplayer modes, an entire new episode for the single-player campaign (well, not new-new, as it was released previously on PC from the game makers behind Wolfenstein: The New Order), cross-platform support, custom matches, mods support, and more. The original Quake has been “remastered” for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S (via backward compatibility), and while this game looks exactly-and I mean exactly-like the software rendering-based game of 1996 out of the box, you can turn on all kinds of graphical effects and achieve something akin to GLQuake but with higher resolutions. (Quake IV was among the first titles released for the then-new Xbox 360 in 2005, which is how I played it as I had switched to console-based gaming by then.)Īs for today’s news, here’s what’s happening. Id Software released various Quake sequels over the years, including Quake II, another technical tour de force that otherwise had nothing to do with the original Quake, Quake III: Arena, a frenetic multiplayer-only title, and then Quake IV, which was-go figure-a sequel to Quake II. But it was quickly augmented with, among other things, smooth, hardware-based rendering, Windows compatibility, and a new multiplayer mode called QuakeWorld that offered significant enhancements for deathmatchers. The first version was an MS-DOS game with software rendering, if you can believe that. Quake also improved dramatically over the years. Quake was also a watershed moment for me personally: I had switched to PC gaming from the Amiga in the early 1990s in part because of DOOM, and thanks to Quake’s technical advances, I switched from purely keyboard-based gaming to more sophisticated mouse-and-keyboard gaming. While most are probably familiar with DOOM and the impact it had on gaming, it is impossible to overstate the importance of its 1996 successor, Quake, as it brought 3D gaming mainstream and has influenced decades of follow-ups the first-person shooters we play today all owe a great debt to Quake and the changes it wrought, and to Id Software’s John Carmack, the technical genius that made it all possible. This re-release is backward compatible with Xbox Series X|S and will also receive next-gen optimizations at a later date, bringing native 4K resolution and 120hz refresh rates.” “Quake returns today with an enhanced re-release on PC and Xbox One and with Xbox Game Pass. “The legendary first-person shooter that inspires today’s retro shooters is back!” Bethesda’s Parker Wilhelm announced. As part of its annual Quakeworld event this week, Microsoft/Bethesda/Id Software announced some big Quake-related updates that will be of particular interest to Xbox Game Pass subscribers. Not all kids have open dialogue about their school day with their parents, so asking this can be very insightful. Finding out the teacher’s perspective of how your child is doing on a social level can give important feedback. Often, we think academics is the only thing that matters when it comes to school, but school is so much more than just academics. Question 5: How is my child doing socially? (have friends, includes others, being left out, etc.) Question 4: What can I do at home to support what is being done in the classroom?īesides completing the required homework, asking this question gives the teacher a chance to give you ideas that are tailored specifically to your child’s needs. Need another way to communicate? Check here to see why I love this easy to use parent communication app! With so many forms of communication, be sure to ask which mode is preferred. Question 3: How do you prefer to communicate? (Email, phone, text, planner) Teachers can use it as a part of educating the whole child (not just looking at the recorded grades/data) This question can lead to discussions on social, emotional and behavioral feedback. You can use this information to support from home. It is important to know the strengths and weaknesses at school. Question 2: What do you believe are my child’s strengths/weaknesses?Ĭhildren can be very different at home than at school. Remember to ask the teacher to explain any assessment tools used to gather this data besides just the weekly tests/quizzes. This is the question most parents are prepared to ask, and the easiest for teachers to show their data on. Question 1: How is my child doing in the main subject areas (Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies)? Here is a list of questions every parent should ask when sitting with their child’s teacher this spring and most importantly- WHY YOU MUST ASK THESE QUESTIONS!Īre you a teacher looking for some guidance on your side of parent-teacher conference? Check out this post! That’s why today, I’m helping parents sitting on the other side of the teacher table be prepared and get the most out of their conference. But, with so much to cover in a short amount of time, it can feel overwhelming. Cue the sweaty palms! What if your child isn’t doing well? What is the teacher going to say? It’s the moment of truth: How is my child REALLY doing? This is your time to ask questions and get immediate feedback. Walking into a parent/teacher conference can be exciting and nerve-racking all at the same time. It’s mid-year, and parents that means it’s time for mid-year parent-teacher conferences. While a few agreed with Kernen most supported and thanked Sorkin for standing up and highlighting that nothing can be as valuable as human life. The heated interaction quickly went viral across social media sites and many opined that they haven’t seen Sorkin so angry ever but said it was much needed. Defending his stance over the week, he argued, “I’m trying to help investors keep their cool! Keep their heads! And as it turned out, that’s what they should’ve done!” “That’s totally unfair!” Kernen said in reply. He controlled his emotions a little and added, “That’s what you did! Every single morning on this show! Every single morning on this show! You used and abused your position, Joe!” “JOSEPH, 100,000 PEOPLE DIED! 100,000 PEOPLE DIED, JOE! AND ALL YOU DID WAS TRY TO DO WAS HELP YOUR FRIEND THE PRESIDENT!”. “JOSEPH! JOSEPH! YOU DIDN’T PANIC ABOUT ANYTHING!” Sorkin was heard saying on air. Irked by his remarks, Sorkin accused Kernen of appeasing President Donald Trump. CNBC’s “Squawk Box” anchors Andrew Ross Sorkin and Joe Kernen clashed on-air during the morning show when Kernen tried to show the economic status in a positive light. Two anchors of a news show on CNBC engaged in an intense verbal spat on-air while discussing the coronavirus lockdown and its impact on the economy. The heated exchange between the two journalist got everyone talking online about Covid-19 deaths and the economic fallout. Rust's syntax is similar to that of C and C++, although many of its features are more influenced by functional programming languages. The Rust Foundation posted a draft for a new trademark policy on April 6, 2023, revising its rules on how the Rust logo and name can be used, which resulted in negative reactions from Rust users and contributors. On November 22, 2021, the Moderation Team, which was responsible for enforcing community standards and the Code of Conduct, announced their resignation "in protest of the Core Team placing themselves unaccountable to anyone but themselves." In May 2022, the Rust Core Team, other lead programmers, and certain members of the Rust Foundation board implemented governance reforms in response to the incident. In a blog post published on April 6, 2021, Google announced support for Rust within the Android Open Source Project as an alternative to C/C++. On February 8, 2021, the formation of the Rust Foundation was announced by its five founding companies ( AWS, Huawei, Google, Microsoft, and Mozilla). The first goal of the foundation would be to take ownership of all trademarks and domain names, and take financial responsibility for their costs. In the following week, the Rust Core Team acknowledged the severe impact of the layoffs and announced that plans for a Rust foundation were underway. The event raised concerns about the future of Rust, as some members of the team were active contributors to Rust. In August 2020, Mozilla laid off 250 of its 1,000 employees worldwide, as part of a corporate restructuring caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Mozilla layoffs and Rust Foundation (2020–present) The first stable release, Rust 1.0, was announced on May 15, 2015. According to Binstock, while Rust was "widely viewed as a remarkably elegant language", adoption slowed because it radically changed from version to version. Dobb's Journal, Andrew Binstock, commented on Rust's chances of becoming a competitor to C++, along with D, Go, and Nim (then Nimrod). In January 2014, the editor-in-chief of Dr. Prior to version 0.4, Rust also supported typestate analysis, through contracts but that was removed in release 0.4, though the same functionality can be achieved by leveraging Rust's type system. Interfaces were combined with traits and removed as a separate feature and classes were replaced by a combination of implementations and structured types. In October 2012, version 0.4 was released, which added traits as a means of inheritance. Four months later, version 0.3 added destructors and polymorphism, through the use of interfaces. In version 0.2, which was released in March 2012, classes were introduced for the first time. Rust's type system underwent significant changes between versions 0.2, 0.3, and 0.4. Hoare later said that Rust was named after the rust fungus, with reference to the fungus's hardiness. The new Rust compiler successfully compiled itself in 2011. During the same year, work shifted from the initial compiler written in OCaml to a self-hosting compiler based on LLVM written in Rust. Mozilla began sponsoring the project in 2009 as a part of the ongoing development of an experimental browser engine called Servo, which was officially announced by Mozilla in 2010. Rust grew out of a personal project begun in 2006 by Mozilla Research employee Graydon Hoare. Mozilla Foundation headquarters in Mountain View, California Origins (2006–2012) Rust has been noted for its growth as a newer language and has been the subject of academic programming languages research. In December 2022, it became the first language other than C and assembly to be supported in the development of the Linux kernel. Since the first stable release in May 2015, Rust has been adopted by companies including Amazon, Discord, Dropbox, Facebook ( Meta), Google ( Alphabet), and Microsoft. Mozilla officially sponsored the project in 2009. Software developer Graydon Hoare created Rust as a personal project while working at Mozilla Research in 2006. It is popularized for systems programming. Rust borrows ideas from functional programming, including static types, immutability, higher-order functions, and algebraic data types. To simultaneously enforce memory safety and prevent concurrent data races, its "borrow checker" tracks the object lifetime of all references in a program during compilation. It enforces memory safety-ensuring that all references point to valid memory-without requiring the use of a garbage collector or reference counting present in other memory-safe languages. Rust is a multi-paradigm, general-purpose programming language that emphasizes performance, type safety, and concurrency. Sunshine is a happy choice for every day.
